Patient Information on enhancing patient and family communication whilst an inpatient-strategies during Covid-19 visiting restrictions

Hospital Admission may be a stressful event in people’s lives which is heightened by the Covid-19 pandemic and visiting restrictions.

During these times there are two pressing needs for you as an inpatient, the first to stay connected with your family and friends the second is for both you and your family to have up-to-date and consistent information on your progress/discharge plan.

Keeping in regular contact with family and friends will help your recovery and mental health!

How we can help you to Enhance Family Communication

  • By providing an information leaflet to you on admission on enhancing communication strategies.
  • Staff making note of your preferred method of family/friend communication during your stay (this of course may be your own mobile phone!)
  • Tablets are readily available for you to use on the ward for family video calls via skype or zoom.
  • Increased Wi-Fi access if required to communicate with your family/relatives
  • Use of the ward telephone if you do not have your own phone.
  • Your family, friends or loved ones can email messages to Cronin.valerie@sivuh.ie which will be printed for you and delivered to you.
  • Providing up to date information on your progress and discharge plan.

Please let us know if you have any additional communication needs!!
